Mölnlycke Health Care has a long history making dressings that help wounds heal, as well as preventative products to reduce the risk of getting a wound in the first place. As a part of continued understanding of the user needs, improvement and creation of new products, I worked in an early development phase of a project. I performed user research including observations and interviews to understand the patient knowledge and motivation to prevent and care for wounds, as well as health care providers’ methods and challenges when treating them. The data was gathered, analysed using KJ analysis, and presented in a structured and comprehensible manner to allow stakeholders to easily understand the nuances of patients’ and health care professionals’ preventative work. The data was also structured in such a way that allowed for traceability which is important in the medtech industry. Additionally, I performed a scientific literature study to map up the risk factors, as well as the connection between them using Miro, in order to understand the causes of the wounds and how these can be prevented. Combined, this understanding of user and healthcare provider needs and the risk factors and possibilities contributed to the creation of a short-, mid- and long-term plan on how to expand Mölnlycke’s product catalogue.
